  • Description

The Schooling Bannerfish (Heniochus diphreutes), also known as the false moorish idol, is a marine fish native to the Indo-Pacific region. It is characterized by its distinctive appearance and is often referred to as the poor man’s moorish idol due to its affordability and ease of care compared to the Moorish Idol.

This species is generally reef-safe and my Schooling Bannerfish has never touched all of my corals. The schooling bannerfish is a hardy species, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced marine fish keepers.

Do not confuse this Schooling Bannerfish with the Longfin Bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus) which is not reef-safe and will eat corals.

Size: About 5″.

Click here to see a fish video of my tank.

Fish history: Purchased small size and quarantined from Carl’s Aquarium in July 2022.

Tank history: AP Corals quarantines everything wet before putting them in the display tank. Pest free tank and nothing has been added to this tank since July 2024.

Not yet ready for pickup. Once order is confirmed, I will start to catch/trap it and will let you know once I have caught it.
